Deep Tissue Massage

There are some similarities between Swedish and Deep Tissue massage; but the real difference is the use of pressure, and how the therapist manipulates the tissue(s). Deeper bodywork is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension by focusing on the fibers and layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding bones, joints and muscles). The effect; removing tension, pain from muscle triggers, and realigning a multitude of layers.

The meat of what deep tissue work is all about lies within the adhesions, knots, build-up and waste throughout our bodies tissues. An adhesion is a band(s) of painful, rigid tissue in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.

Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep Tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain, the therapy is often more painful then the current ailment. It is imparative that good open line of communication be maintained during the session.

To do this, the massage therapist often uses direct deep pressure or friction applied with varying methods across the fibers of the muscle/tissue(s).

There are many benefits to receiving massage as it can assist in improving conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, sprains and strains, tendonitis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, piriformis syndrome, and much more.
